The Ghar Station in 2019

2018 was quite an unprecedented year for Rift. We saw the launch of Rift Prime, and the first year where no new content launched for the main Live service that was not part of a seasonal event (such as fae yule) or an event (such as the return of the Hellbug and Mech event weekends). In addition, Trion Worlds was bought by Gamigo, resulting in a massive change of how their games are handled behind the scenes.

This has left the community worried, concerned, and eager for information about what comes next. We got some answers from the new CM team on the forums (here’s the link to that post), though it pales in comparison to the known features that were in development just before the buyout.

So The Ghar Station here is put into a strange position. We have relied upon game patches to find information to report, thus this site’s ability to generate content is fairly dependent on Rift’s patch schedule, and there have only been 3 patches since the Gamigo buyout. This makes it difficult to provide everyone with new content.

One goal going into 2019 is to revisit reporting on datamining in other games. In addition to this, I had datamined the closed Alpha 1 for Torchlight Frontiers (I wrote a small post over on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Torchlight/comments/9xlueh/datamined_skill_list_alpha_spoilers/ ). I may start more work on datamining Torchlight Frontiers in the coming months.

Overall, it’s clear that we need to pivot away from Rift if this site is to grow and keep up relevance. Of course we will always report on the latest Rift datamining as it is available, but now is the time to actually find ways to expand.
